MIDDLETOWN — A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer”s duty firearm was discharged when a man tried to grab hold of the gun during a tussle in Anderson Springs Thursday morning, Lake County District Attorney Don Anderson said.

Nobody was hit by the single shot, and it was not immediately clear whose finger pulled the trigger, Anderson added.

According to the DA, a Lake County Sheriff”s deputy initially responded to a domestic dispute call at the home outside Middletown, and upon arrival, the male resident attempted to fight with the deputy and grab the deputy”s weapon.

A CHP officer then arrived on scene, and the suspect also tried to take that officer”s gun, which went off while the two were wrestling, Anderson added.

The man was eventually taken into custody, and the incident remains under investigation.
