
FRESNO — Jonathan Fredrickson of the Punishers Wrestling Club of Lower Lake won all five of his matches, three by pin, to bring home the title in the 50-pound age 9-10 division at the USA Freestyle State Championships last weekend in Fresno.
Fredrickson and Punishers teammate Bryan Gudino battled their way through opposite sides of the bracket to meet in the finals where Fredrickson won 6-0. It”s the second state championship for Fredrickson, who won the SCWAY Folkstyle State Championships in 2012.
Gudino posted a 4-1 record while finishing second to Fredrickson. He advanced to the championship match with a dominating 10-0 victory over Jeremy Lee Oani in the semifinals.
Competing in the same bracket as Fredrickson and Gudino was Austin Fredrickson, who went 3-2 and finished fifth. He pinned Oani in the fifth-place match.
Also for the Punishers, Blake Fredrickson claimed second in the 70-pound schoolboy division, falling to Andrew Bloemhof of Shafter Wrestling Club by decision in the championship match.
The Punishers received another high finish from Adam Viramontes, who was fifth in his 75-pound bantam division.
