LAKE COUNTY — The Konocti Unified School District will offer free meals to children in Lower Lake and Clearlake through the federal Summer Food Service Program during the next two months.
Meal service will occur at two locations Mondays through Fridays from June 13 to July 26.
The program, offered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service, was created “to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session,” according to the USDA website.
Lower Lake Elementary School (9240 Lake St.) will host breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Clearlake”s First Baptist Church (14550 Pearl Ave.) will serve breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to noon.
The free-of-charge meals will be the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service, officials said.
Anyone wanting to register a discrimination complaint should contact the director of the Office of Adjustment for the USDA.
