KELSEYVILLE — I am writing in response to the letter: “They help themselves.”
I could totally understand this letter because I know that the older we baby-boomers get the more there will be situations such as described in Mr. Strasser”s letter.
I had similar experiences with my own mother, except that every step of her situation was taken care of by Kaiser (her health plan) or me, her daughter.
I was confused at the end of Mr. Strasser”s letter though, because it went from the last trip the EMT”s made to help this woman to the next day when somehow there was a doctor who helped solve this woman”s dilemma ? no explanation on how this was solved.
But it is a lesson for health care personnel, especially when there are no younger children nearby to help their parent weather this kind of debilitating situation.
From this story, I see how important it is to have a health plan in place that has check and balances for the elderly and the situations they may inevitably may find themselves in.
