LAKEPORT — A power pole was severely damaged and a part of 11th Street in Lakeport was closed in the aftermath of a solo-vehicle crash.
At about 1:37 p.m., James Knox, 76, was heading eastbound on 11th Street in his white Toyota Tacoma pickup when he allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel, Lt. Jason Ferguson of the Lakeport Police Department said at the scene.
Knox then drifted right onto Pool Street where he hit a utility pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.
Both airbags deployed upon impact, but the driver did not sustain injuries, Ferguson said.
Authorities kept the truck in place for about an hour to keep the pole stabilized until a PG&E truck was brought in to hold it in place with a “digger derrick,” Ferguson said.
The area on 11th Street between North Street and the entrance to Round Table Pizza was closed late into Tuesday night.
