LOWER LAKE — A man allegedly crawling through a dog door was greeted with gun shots during a home invasion robbery Sunday.

At about 6:15 a.m., residents of a home on Arrowpoint Road in Lower Lake said they heard what sounded like someone entering, according to Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) Lt. Steve Brooks. One resident armed himself to investigate the noise and allegedly found a man entering through a dog door with what appeared to be a black handgun.

The resident then allegedly fired twice at the suspect, who backed out of the dog door and began running away, Brooks stated.

The resident, still inside, allegedly saw a second suspect who also appeared to be holding a firearm standing in the middle of the yard, Brooks stated. The suspect allegedly began to lift his arm as if to shoot, and the resident fired two more shots.

LCSO deputies responded to the scene at about 6:45 a.m., and allegedly found no indication anyone was injured by the gunshots, Brooks stated.

They received information that a vehicle was parked at a nearby home that did not belong there, Brooks stated. Deputies found the keys in the backyard of the home where the invasion took place, and found the wallet of one of the suspects inside, later identified as Thomas lee Sargent of Clearlake.

On Monday, LCSO Major Crimes Unit personnel found Sargent, 36, Brooks stated.

Sargent was later transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to contact the LCSO at 263-2690.
