LAKEPORT — The 43rd quilt block on the Lake County Quilt Trail (LCQT) is installed on Scully Packing, located at 2180 Scotts Valley Road.
The quilt block was named “Weathervane,” to honor the memory of Adele Burriss Grothe, a lifelong resident of Scotts Valley and Lakeport. Her father, Clyde Burriss, was a founding member of the Historic Scotts Valley Fruit Exchange in the early 1930s, a previous business at this location. “Dell” delivered many loads of pears to the shed, as a grower”s daughter and later as a grower”s wife.
This location also was the home of the ?Ice House,” in the 1950s.
The LCQT is an agricultural and tourism project designed to promote community pride.
“Weathervane,” is sponsored by Jenny Campbell, daughter of Grothe. The colors purple, red, yellow and blue were chosen for the block to replicate the colors Adele used in quilts she created for all her family members.
The 8-by-8 quilt block was drawn and painted by the LCQT team, a group of
dedicated quilters, graphic artists, painters, writers, carpenters, and a videographer.
