LAKE COUNTY — A businessman with more than 30 years of experience was announced as the new Economic Development Manager Wednesday.
Jack Long comes to Lake County from Sonoma County, where he ran his own consulting company, he said during a phone interview Wednesday afternoon.
“I am confident in Jacks” credibility within the business community, and his long history with a variety of successful business will provide the experience we need to grow Lake County”s economy to the next level,” Lake County Administrative Officer Matt Perry stated in a press release.
Long, 70, started working for Lake County on Monday. He has experience managing special projects and economic development consulting for companies based in the U.S. and Canada, Perry stated. Long has worked with firms such as Caesar”s Palace, Molson Brewing and the Indianapolis Speedway, among others.
The plan is simple, Long said, the idea is to help existing businesses grow and cultivate new business. He intends to use business connection he has around the state to bring new business to Lake County.
Long pointed to the growth of the wine industry and development of real estate as some areas to focus on.
For Long, the opportunity to make the switch into the public sector came at the right time, he said. He and his wife were looking to escape the traveling demands of the private industry and looking for a more stable lifestyle.
“This is a good use of my talents,” Long said. “I”m in the right place at the right time.”
