KELSEYVILLE — A family of six lost their home in a fire at about 2 a.m. Thursday at Fairway Drive near Point Lakeview Road.

Erik and Jessica Leary woke up to flames and only had time to gather their four children, including an 18-month-old baby girl, and escape the burning single story-house with their lives, witness and family friend Michelle Groom said. Three boys were also present during the fire, a 6-year-old and 9-year-old twins.

There was little the Leary”s could do to save their possessions.

“I was just standing there with Erik and Jessica watching it burn,” Groom said.

A neighbor jumped over the back fence and was able to save the family”s three dogs, Groom said.

Kelseyville Fire Protection District (KFPD), Lakeport Fire Protection District and CAL FIRE responded to the scene with four fire engines, KFPD Capt. Dave Carter said.

About 16 firefighters worked together to fight the flames, which took roughly an hour-and-a-half to contain.

The fire threatened a second single-story home, but the fire was controlled before it caused any damage to it, Carter said. The Leary home was declared a total loss.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The Leary”s are looking for a place to rent in Clear Lake Riviera, Groom said.

Anyone who would like to help the Leary family can contact Michelle Groom at 277-0171.
