LAKEPORT — Three students were each awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Lake County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture (LCCWA) for the upcoming school year.
Each spring, the LCCWA offers scholarships for as much as the amount of $1,000 to graduating high school seniors and college or vocational students whose educational emphasis is related to agriculture.
Jennifer Keithly of Lakeport, will attend the University of California, Davis in the veterinary medicine program. Keithly holds a bachelor”s degree from California State University, Chico and a master”s degree from Montana State University. In 2010, she returned to Lake County and has been actively involved with agriculture.
Lindee Jones of Middletown, was awarded a scholarship from LCCWA for the second year. She is attending Shasta Community College and plans to transfer to California State University, Chico. Her aim is to receive her bachelor”s degree in plant science with an emphasis in crop management and become a pesticide control advisor. Jones is an intern for the Lake County Farm Bureau.
Erick Orozco of Clearlake, is attending Mendocino College and aims to transfer to University of California, Davis. There, Orozco plans to earn his bachelor”s degree in enology and become a winemaker.
The LCCWA also provides mini-grants to teachers who are educating students about agriculture and food.
In addition, LCCWA sponsors AgVenture, an educational program for community leaders to learn more about agriculture in Lake County.
The LCCWA actively educates members and the public about matters concerning agriculture at both the county and state levels.
