CLEARLAKE — We struggle steadily to improve our community, but we are not doing much about the trash and junk.
Going for a morning walk is like strolling through the county dump.
What respectable citizen would want to move here, or establish a business here.
Some people actually refuse ? or fail to fit into their budget ? to pay for trash disposal. So they dump the stuff in public places.
I propose two steps.
Make household trash collection universal, and put the charge on the property tax bill so renters cannot decline it.
This may seem harsh to folks on desperate budgets, but the quality of life is worth something, even to those who do not realize it.
It”s called civilization, and it behooves us all to pursue it.
Make it free to deposit larger items at the dump.
Yes, we would have to find the money for this. But if the money can be scrounged up somehow, the quality of the community would benefit in the long run ? even financially, I would wager.
I would not oppose a fee on my property tax bill for this ? I live here.
