LAKEPORT — Emergency response personnel and city staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide information at a community event Tuesday.

National Night Out (NNO) will take place on the grounds of the Lakeport Latter-Day Saints Church, located at 600 16th St. in Lakeport from 6 to 8 p.m., according to a release from Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen.

NNO is aimed to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, Rasmussen stated. Lakeport police officers, firefighters, volunteers and city council members, as well as city management and staff will be at the event to interact and provide information and materials about policing programs, neighborhood watch, community safety, fire safety and prevention and other health and welfare issues within the community.

Each person who reviews the brochures at the police booth will recieve a raffle ticket to enter for the chance to win one of two new bicycles, which will be raffled off at the end of the event.

At 6:30 p.m., Officer Stephanie Green and 10-year-old Hannah Steffen will be commended for recent lifesaving efforts involving a drowning man Green pulled to surface from 8 feet below, Rasmussen stated.

The city will provide hot dogs and drinks free-of-charge, and the Lakeport Kiwanis Club will be on hand to serve those in attendance.

The event will also have a kids” corner, where there will be games and prizes. “McGruff the crime fighting dog” and Chipper from the California Highway Patrol will be featured as well.
