CLEARLAKE — The City Council on Thursday will consider the adoption of an ordinance that would place a measure on the November ballot that, if passed, would add 1 percent to the sales tax to be used for street and road maintenance and for code enforcement.

Both city staff and the council have shown support for the measure, and following staff comments at the meeting, the public will have an opportunity to voice their opinions.

The council, which backed the proposal by a 4-1 vote on June 24, is then expected to vote on the ordinance, which requires a two-thirds majority of the council”s vote — or at least four ?yes” votes — to pass.

In other business at the 6 p.m. meeting at City Hall, the council will consider a resolution supporting a $5,200 grant agreement between the city and the Redbud Health Care District (RHCD), and review and discuss several minor changes to the medical marijuana ordinance.

Also on the agenda are two presentations, one by Police Chief Craig Clausen, who will introduce newly hired police officers, and one by RHCD President Conrad Colbrandt, who will present a special commendation to members of the Clearlake Police Department.
