LAKE COUNTY — Hospice Services of Lake County (HSLC) purchased the property at 1862 Parallel Drive in Lakeport to become its new headquarters.

The existing 5,700-square-foot main building was the former location of the Calvary Baptist Church. The building will be remodeled and expanded to 6,500 square feet to house the administrative and clinical staffs. The plans for the remodel and site improvements were approved by the Lakeport Planning Commission in June, according to Christine Hutt, marketing coordinator of HSLC.

“We”ve been looking to expand for a number of years because our daily patient load has doubled since 2009,” Anja Koot, HSLC executive director said. Because of additional staff required to cover the increased patient load, the organization has outgrown its current 3,300-square-feet of office space, Hutt stated. It currently rents additional offices for part of its administrative staff in a separate location in Lakeport.

HSLC has committed to using consultants, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers from the surrounding area for this building project and to obtain financing for the project through a bank in the area. It”s also determined to follow green building procedures and recycle usable materials and debris, Hutt stated.

After reviewing all the submitted bids, the HSLC Board of Directors awarded the project”s contract to Mitchell Construction. The project is expected to take six months for completion, Hutt stated.

HSLC is a nonprofit agency that provides medical, emotional and spiritual care to persons with serious illnesses in their homes. The agency has been serving Lake County since 1979. For more information about hospice care, call 263-6222.
