BUCKINGHAM – Joe Tannous, an incoming junior at Kelseyville High School as well as a second-team All-Coastal Mountain Conference golfer for the Knights, shot a 9-over-par 81 to win the 21st annual Buckingham Summer Junior Golf Championship on Monday at Buckingham Golf and Country Club.

Tannous, the No. 1 golfer at Kelseyville High School, opened play with a front-nine 39 to jump out to a four-stroke lead. He carded a safe and conservative 42 on the back nine to win his first local junior tourney by an eight-stroke margin. Tannous had one birdie on his scorecard.

Runner-up honors went to Tannous” Kelseyville High School classmate and teammate Brandon Huber, who shot a 43 on the front nine and backed it up with a 46 on the final nine for an 18-hole total of 89. While a talented linkster, Huber is also a member of Kelseyville High”s baseball team. In third place in the 16-17 age group was incoming Kelseyville High School senior Justin Johnson with a 101.

Logan Barrick of Lakeport turned in a score of 108 to capture the 14-15 boys” division, which was tightly contested. Two strokes back in second place at 110 was Southern California resident Matthew Kodweis. Samuel Long of Lakeport finished in third place with 120 and Jonah Lewis of Lakeport was fourth with 123.

Sophie Sells, an incoming junior at Kelseyville High as well as a member of the school”s golf team, repeated as Buckingham Summer Junior girls” champion, shooting 61 for nine holes.

In the boys” 12-13 division, Matt Wotherspoon of Buckingham won his flight with a nine-hole total of 48. Jacob Blair of Cobb was 13 shots back in second place, winning a one-hole playoff with Mike Camacho of Lakeport, who finished third. Blair sank an 8-foot bogey putt on the first playoff hole to clinch runner-up honors.

Jacob Lopez of Finley finished fourth overall with 70.

Sarah Parlee of Lakeport won the girls” 10-11 division with a nine-hole total of 72.

In the 7-11 boys” division, Hunter Blair of Cobb shot a 6-over-par 25 on a five-hole course setup to top the field. Charles Johnson of Kelseyville, a 7-year-old with plenty of golf experiences for his age, came in second with 38.

The Buckingham Summer Junior is sponsored by Buckingham Golf and Country Club, the Buckingham Tournament Players Club the Buckingham 9ers, and the Buckingham Women”s Golf Club. Divisional winners receive trophies and second-place finishers receive medals.

Area junior golfers return to action Wednesday in the 20th annual Lake County Junior Golf Championship at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain. The first players begin teeing off at 8 a.m.
