KELSEYVILLE — The Lake County Land Trust (LCLT) will be presenting an educational fundraiser to benefit The Boggs Lake Reserve on Mount Hannah on Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. at the Moore Family Winery.

The LCLT is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural habitats of Lake County.

The featured speaker for the event will be Carol Witham, vernal pool ecologist and management specialist. Witham will present a virtual tour of vernal pools and provide answers to questions about what makes a vernal pool and why they are rare in California.

A special feature of the event will be a short field trip at Boggs Lake, led by Witham. The field trip will start at 3:30 p.m. and is only open to those supporting the fundraiser.

Boggs Lake, owned by The Nature Conservancy and co-managed with the LCLT, is a vernal pool featuring rare, native plants in the state of California, LCLT executive director, Cathy Koehler said.

“Vernal pools provide a kaleidoscope of brilliant life as the pools progress through seasonal transitions from wet to dry,” Koehler stated.

The fundraiser costs $30 per person and reservations are required. The price includes appetizers and a glass of wine from the Moore Family Winery. The winery is located at 11990 Bottle Rock Road in Kelseyville.

For information or to make reservations call 262-0707 or email LCLT@lakecountylandtrust.org. For information about the land trust visit www.lakecountylandtrust.org.
