KELSEYVILLE — A Kelseyville man died in a single vehicle crash at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday on Saddle Road east of Spur Road.

Daniel Lua, 22, and a 17-year-old passenger were travelling eastbound on saddle Road in a 2001 GMC pickup when they reached a slight right-hand curve and were unable to slow down in time, according to a report by Sgt. Mike Humble of the California Highway Patrol.

The pickup ran off the road and struck a utility pole with its left side, Humble stated. It then continued eastbound on the north roadway edge of Saddle Road until it crashed into a large pine tree. After the crash, the truck came to rest facing east just north of the north shoulder.

Lua was transported to an awaiting air ambulance but succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead moments later. The passenger was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The crash is under investigation, Humble Stated. Alcohol was not considered a factor.
