COBB — The Friends of Boggs Mountain will offer a nature walk on the Interpretive Trail Saturday at 9 a.m.

The trail at times parallels Houghton Creek, where plant life that likes to have its feet in water as well species that enjoy drier terrain can be seen, according to Darlene Hecomovich.

The blooms are just emerging on the large Spikenard shrubs along the creek, whereas the Madrone trees nearby have already laid down a carpet of yellow leaves and a cluster of bright red berries is all that remains of the flower of the Mountain Dogwood found on the hillsides, Hecomovich stated.

The Interpretive Trail has more than 50 signs identifying the plants, shrubs, trees, mosses and wildflowers encountered on the path. The 1.3-mile hike will be on moderate terrain and will be led by Hecomovich.

Sturdy shoes, appropriate clothing for weather conditions and water are recommended.

Hikers will meet at the parking lot kiosk promptly at 9 a.m.

The forest entrance is off of Highway 175, two miles north of Cobb Village. Turn at the blue State Fire Station/Boggs Mountain Forest sign.

For information, call Hecomovich at 928-5591 or email at dheco@me.com.
