LAKEPORT — The California State Director at the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be the featured presenter at a Thrive Lake County meeting on Aug. 20.

Glenda Humiston was as appointed as director by President Obama on Aug.23, 2009.

Humiston brings more than 25 years of experience working on public policy development and program implementation supporting rural development and sustainable communities to the agency, according to Carol Cole-Lewis of Thrive Lake County.

Her presentation to Thrive Lake County will offer an update to the contents of an August 2012 report released by the California Financial Opportunities Roundtable, “Access to Capital,” which can be found at www.rurdev.usda.gov/Reports/CA-CalFOR.pdf.

The report was created as a result of 43 Town Hall forums held throughout California where participants offered recommendations on what was needed to create jobs, grow the economy and develop sustainable communities, Cole-Lewis stated.

The Thrive Lake County meeting will be held at Dancing Tree People Farm at 1445 Pitney Lane in Upper Lake, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The ticket cost is either a contribution of one potluck item to share with six-to-eight people, two time bank hours, or $10. Participants who arrive early or stay late to set up or clean up will earn time bank hours for their help. Attendees need to bring plate, cup, and utensils.
