CLEARLAKE — The Children”s Museum of Art and Science (CMAS) had an eventful summer with more to come in the fall, according to Carolynn Jarrett.
CMAS is a volunteer, nonprofit dedicated to providing art and science experiences for the youth of Lake County.
The students in the Culinary Arts Program at Yuba Community College (YCC) will have foods from community vendors for the “Summer Harvest” fundraiser for the CMAS on Sept. 7, according to Jarrett.
The buffet dinner will be held at the Aromas Caf? on the YCC from 6 to 8 p.m. A variety of musicians will perform and a raffle will be included in the evening”s entertainment.
Tickets cost $20 if purchased prior to Aug. 31, and $25 at the door. Tickets are available at Marie”s Feed in Clearlake and The Travel Center in Lakeport. For information or to obtain tickets, call 994-2878 or email marthabakerjian@yahoo.com.
In May, CMAS partnered with the Lake County Office of Education, the Lake County Historical Society and the Redbud Audubon Society (RAS) to host the 7th annual art and science camp. The camp was held at Taylor Observatory-Norton Planetarium (TONP) and the Ely Stage Stop. The RAS also hosted a raptor show as well, Jarrett stated.
Volunteers conducted weekly sessions using Lego robot kits with students in the after-school program at Upper Lake Elementary School. CMAS purchased additional laptops in order to allow 32 students to participate, Jerrett stated. The laptops will be available to after-school programs county-wide in the upcoming school year
CMAS sponsored and assisted in organizing the new Lake County Rocket Club (LCRC). The LCRC met weekly at TONP under the guidance of retired teacher Bill Bordisso, which will continue in the fall.
All events and activities are always free-of-charge to students. CMAS is made possible by donations from community businesses, service groups and individuals.
