LAKE COUNY — Kelseyville High School graduates Pvt. Joey Hogan and Pvt. Dalton Gunther graduated from Marine Corps boot camp on Aug. 2.

The privates attended boot camp for approximately three months and are now United States Marines, according to Sgt. David Gonzales, United States Marines Corps recruiter.

Both faced their own difficulties during the boot camp. The hikes were the hardest part, Hogan said.

Marines go on hikes on three, five and eight miles while carrying 65 pound packs, Gonzales stated.

For Gunther, the challenge was the Crucible. The Crucible is the final physical and mental test prior to graduation, Gonzales stated.

Hogan is currently home for boot camp leave and will return to Camp Pendleton to attend the School of Infantry (SOI), Gonzales stated.

The SOI prepares and teaches Marines the basics of infantry tactics. Upon completion of the SOI program, he will attend ammunition specialist technician school in Redstone Arsenal, Ala.

Gunther is home for boot camp leave as well, and will return to Camp Pendleton to attend the SOI. From there, he will attend motor transportation school in Fort Leonard Wood, Miss. Upon completion of the program, he will receive a $4,000 bonus.

Hogan is the son of JaymeLee and Danny Hogan of Kelseyville.

Gunther is the son of Sharon and Robert Gunther of Lakeport.
