LAKEPORT — Grillers gathered to raise some green on Aug. 3 for the Grillin” on the Green fundraising event.

Amateur and professional grillers competed to raise money to benefit?the?next phase of development of the Westside Community Park in Lakeport.

The fourth annual competition raised a net income of almost $13,350, according to Westside Community Park Committee Chair Dennis Rollins.

It was part barbecue heaven, part vintage car heaven at the Lakeport park, located at 1401 Westside Park Road.

More than 40 classic cars, courtesy of the No Name Car Club, were parked just beyond the grilling area, where service clubs prepared their own special dishes for the roughly 320 people in attendance, Rollins stated.

Fans selected the top three barbecue teams, which received trophies.

The Clear Lake High School Sports Foundation, led by Casey Dye, was back to defend its 2012 title and once again took first-place for its three kinds of chicken: garlic, jalapeno and Hawaiian, Rollins stated. Second-place went to the Delta Iota Tau Sorority for its bacon wrapped sausage, and Still Smokin” and Q-n, led by Adrian Hoaglen, won third-place with tri-tip and chicken.

There were also games, a funhouse and a waterslide for children. The LC Diamonds provided musical entertainment.

The Westside Community Park is a recreational facility that was established 14 years ago.?

The?nonprofit park committee, which organized the grilling event, is developing?the?park in conjunction with?the?city of Lakeport, volunteers and contributions by individuals and businesses.
