ROHNERT PARK — Shyanne Chapin scored a goal in the first half, but the Clear Lake Cardinals came up short in a season-opening 4-1 loss to the Rancho Cotate Cougars on Wednesday during a junior varsity girls” soccer game at Rohnert Park.
Rancho Cotate led 3-1 at the half.
“The girls played a great second half, holding Rancho Cotate to a single goal,” Clear Lake coach Tommy Burke said. “Despite this being a loss, this was a Division I team. The girls played outstanding.”
Clear Lake standouts were Chapin, keeper Ashlyn Braunschweig and defenders Karina Salmeron and Hailey Smith.
Clear Lake (0-1) returns to action Wednesday in Upper Lake at 4 p.m.
