LAKE COUNTY — Lake County Mediations announced the schedule of its basic mediation training classes. Training consists of 32 hours of classroom instruction in five sessions;

Classes will be held at the United Methodist Church on First and Main Street in Kelseyville: Oct. 5 from 8 to 5 p.m. ; Oct. 11 from 5 to 9 p.m.; Oct. 12 from 8 to 5 p.m.; Oct. 25 from 5 to 9 p.m.; Oct. 26 from 8 to 5 p.m.

The training is led by experienced mediation trainers and consists of a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience in role-play case studies. A certificate of completion is awarded to the participants who complete all the classes and 28 hours of MCLE credit is available for legal professionals. Participants receive training in: Communication and active listening skills, role, value, types and history of mediation, the mediation process, and dealing with dispute resolution within a culturally diverse community. The cost is $250, and includes a training manual. Lake County Mediations offers a reduced-fee of $125 to anyone who has a demonstrated financial need and agrees to commit 25 volunteer hours to Lake County Mediations co-mediating and/or shadowing with experienced mediators. Those seeking the reduced-fee are required to participate in an interview prior to acceptance into the class.
