FORT BRAGG — Three wins in four games made it a pretty good weekend for the Clear Lake High School junior varsity girls” soccer team on Friday and Saturday during the Coast Cup Tournament at Fort Bragg.

Clear Lake (3-2-1) beat three straight JV opponents before falling 2-0 to the Fort Bragg varsity club, its third game on Saturday.

“With this being the third game on Saturday (and the team”s fourth in two days) and very limits subs available, the girls were exhausted and just didn”t have enough gas in the tank,” Clear Lake coach Tommy Burke said.

Clear Lake beat the Fort Bragg JVs 2-0 on Friday and St. Bernard of Eureka 2-0 early Saturday for its first two wins. Amelia Perry and Shyanne Chapin scored in the win over Fort Bragg while Perry and Shannyn Magana tallied goals in the win over St. Bernard.

The Cardinals came back with a 2-1 win over Willits behind goals from Magana and Perry on Saturday afternoon before falling to the Fort Bragg varsity.

“I couldn”t have been more proud of the girls,” Burke said. “They played a fantastic tournament. The ball movement and communication was great. It was a lot of fun watching the progression and development as it comes together on the field.”

Standouts were Chapin (center-mid), Perry (forward), Magana (center-mid), Ashlyn Braunschweig (keeper), Iris Vasquez (fullback), Rose Cerda (sweeper), Hailey Smith (stopper), Jessica Beall (wing), Hailie Holmes (wing), Taylor Powers (forward), Ariana Valadez (fullback-mid) and Aranza Ambriz (fullback), according to Burke.

Clear Lake”s JVs hit the road Thursday to play Rincon Valley Christian at 4:30 p.m.
