ROHNERT PARK — Jesus Garcia had a hat trick (three goals) for the second game in a row while leading the Middletown Mustangs to a 7-2 non-league victory over Technology Prep in varsity boys” soccer action on Friday afternoon in Rohnert Park.

Garcia also had an assist, giving him six goals and four assists in his last two games — both Middletown wins. In fact, the Mustangs (2-1) have won back-to-back games for the first time in Chuck Rannells” four-year tenure as coach.

“They were overmatched,” Rannells said of the young Technology Prep team. “We did a lot of substituting after the first half.”

Middletown took a 6-1 lead into halftime at which point Rannells emptied his bench.

“All of our freshmen got a lot of playing time,” Rannells said.

Joining Garcia in the scoring column were Brandon Rannells, Jorge Morales, Darrien Ross and Ricardo Chaires. Ross” goal was the first of his high school career and he also had an assist. Rannells and Morales added assists as well.

Standouts on the Middletown defense were Nick Santos and Eddison Serena.

Middletown opens its North Central League I schedule on the road Tuesday in Willits at 3:30 p.m. The Mustangs” first home league game is Thursday against Fort Bragg at 5:30 p.m.
