Statistical leaders

Rushing — Lower Lake quarterback Isazah King rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns in a season-opening win over Marshall. Teammate Erick Moreno added 160 yards and three touchdowns. Upper Lake”s Ian Seevers gained 124 yards and scored once in his first start at running back. Kelseyville”s Kevin Duty had 82 yards and two touchdowns while backfield mate Robert McLean added 77 yards and three TDs against Upper Lake. Also for Kelseyville, Julius Nelson handled the ball just twice, gaining 88 yards with one TD. Clear Lake”s Garrett Harwood gained 68 yards on 14 carries in his varsity debut. Middletown”s Brad Beckwith had 71 yards and 11 carries, including the game-winning touchdown against Salesian.

Passing — Middletown”s Josiah Amos completed 10 of 29 passes for 132 yards and a TD in his varsity debut. Also making their varsity debuts were Lower Lake”s Isazah King, who was 4-for-6 for 107 yards, and Kelseyville”s Noah Lyndall, who was 2-for-2 for 35 yards and a TD. Clear Lake”s Adrian Adams went 7-for-13 for 102 yards and two TDs.

Receiving — Middletown”s Anthonie Guzman had five catches for 55 yards while Clear Lake”s David Mansell had four catches for 55 yards and a TD. Brenden Manginer had two receptions for 51 yards for Lower Lake.

Highlights

Special teams — Clear Lake”s Cole Brodnansky made all four of his extra-point tries and a 30-yard field goal. His teammate, David Mansell, returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown and almost had a second TD return moments later against Durham. Kelseyville”s Kevin Duty returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown against Upper Lake.

Defense — Clear Lake”s defense limited Durham”s spread offense to 109 yards. Kelseyville”s defense held Upper Lake to one first down until the final minutes of the second quarter. Anthonie Guzman returned a fumble 54 yards for a touchdown for the first points in Middletown”s win over Salesian.

Good things come in threes — Clear Lake defensive end Gabe Oilar-Strong had three sacks against Durham. Kelseyville”s Tyler Riewertz recovered three fumbles against Upper Lake. Middletown”s Anthonie Guzman accounted for three of the four turnovers forced by Middletown”s defense against Salesian with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Look ahead — Kelseyville travels to South Fork on Friday night and returns home the following Friday (Sept. 20) to play John Swett in the Knights” home opener. South Fork (1-1) beat John Swett 16-14 in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 30 in Crockett.

Sea of yellow — Clear Lake and Durham combined for 204 yards in penalties on Friday night in Lakeport.

Streaks — Middletown ended a five-game losing streak to Salesian with its 21-14 victory on Saturday in Richmond, where the Mustangs were missing a couple of key players. Clear Lake snapped a three-game losing streak to Durham on Friday night.

Victorious debuts — Head coaches Justin Gaddy of Lower Lake and Mike McGuire of Kelseyville each won their first game at their respective schools.

Ten tackles — Lower Lake”s Ryan Dahneke had five solo tackles and five assists to lead the Trojans against Marshall. He also recovered a fumble.
