UPPER LAKE — The Upper Lake Cougars gave Rincon Valley Christian all they could handle for a half and then some before falling 4-0 in North Central League II varsity girls” soccer action on a red-hot Monday afternoon in Upper Lake.

Amber Drake played the first half at keeper for the Cougars (0-1, 0-2-1) and was able to keep all but one of the Eagles” shots out of the net.

“She did an outstanding job,” Upper Lake coach Mandy Robbins said.

Drake moved to forward in the second half and put pressure on the Rincon Valley Christian defense, according to Robbins.

“She had some great shots on goal,” Robbins said.

The Cougars also received solid play from Megan Wold and freshman Jazlyn Bonilla, who moved to keeper in the second half.

Upper Lake”s second-year coach said she was pleased with her team”s overall performance, citing improved passing and communication.

“We looked better than last year when we played them and lost 6-2,” Robbins said.

Upper Lake returns to action Friday at home against Roseland Prep at 4:30 p.m.
