Highlights

Special teams — Lower Lake placekicker Mauricio Jauregui went 4-for-6 on his extra-point tries. Kelseyville”s Kevin Duty returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter against John Swett. He also returned a kickoff 85 yards for a TD two weeks ago against Upper Lake.

Defense — Lower Lake”s defense put 18 points on the board against Upper Lake, recovering two fumbles in the end zone for touchdowns and returning an interception 42 yards for another score.

Four scores — Kevin Duty scored four touchdowns in Kelseyville”s win over John Swett. He has 10 touchdowns in three games.

Sack attack — Anthony Williams of Lower Lake registered two more sacks in a win over Upper Lake, bringing his season total to a county-leading 51/2. Tyler Riewerts had three of Kelseyville”s seven sacks against John Swett. Kevin Duty had two others.

Pretty classy — Following Lower Lake”s win over Upper Lake at Upper Lake, the Lower Lake players went over to the stands to thank their fans for showing up and supporting them.

He”s headed in that direction — Niners coach Jim Harbaugh”s commercial where he”s coaching youngsters.

Yellow hankies working overtime — John Swett was called for 11 penalties totaling 133 yards.

Not good — A vocal site administrator for John Swett, who was watching the game from the sideline during Friday”s action at Kelseyville, was about to be ejected from the field by game officials but was allowed to stay after some discussion because the Crockett school would have had to forfeit the game if he wasn”t there.

Speaking of forfeits — Forced to forfeit their first two wins because they used an ineligible player, the Middletown Mustangs should learn this week whether their appeal to the North Coast Section is upheld or denied. It was simply a case of not filing a piece of paperwork with the section. Middletown reported itself to the section and received the maximum penalty possible, which doesn”t really make much sense.

A two-for you never want — Two Clear Lake players, David Mansell and Gabe Oilar-Strong, sustained ankle injuries on the same play Friday night in Miranda as the Cardinals fell 28-24 to South Fork. To rub a little more salt in the wound, they were injured on a play that resulted in a South Fork touchdown.

Now it gets interesting — The North Central League I and II races start this weekend. The mismatch of the week has to be the Middletown Mustangs heading north to play the Willits Wolverines. Middletown is unbeaten on the field while Willits, which is coming off a bye week, is 0-3 and has been outscored 102-6. Middletown has outscored its first three opponents 104-14. In other NCL I openers Friday, its Kelseyville at St. Helena, Clear Lake at Cloverdale and Lower Lake at Fort Bragg. On Saturday, Upper Lake hosts California School for the Deaf in NCL II action. It”s Upper Lake”s fourth straight home game to open the season.

Really, who does that? — Criticize cheerleaders on a Facebook video? Welcome to social media at its worst. From now on, those doing so will just get knocked off the site. Nothing good to say? Then don”t say anything.

It”s a big one, soccer version — Middletown visits Cloverdale today in an early season NCL I showdown of undefeated girls” soccer teams. Cloverdale tied Middletown at Cloverdale last season, the only thing keeping Middletown from a perfect season in 2012. Middletown hosts Clear Lake on Thursday in another big match.

Totally-non-sports-related Breaking Bad update — Sorry, but I”ve got a soft spot in my heart for Walt.

Really, you don”t say? — NFL players have a substance abuse problem. Stole that gem from ESPN the other night.

JV update — Middletown”s JVs improved to 3-0 on the season with a 35-6 win over El Molino on Friday night in Middletown.
