KELSEYVILLE — The 23rd annual Konocti Challenge will take place on Saturday.
It will feature 100- and 65-mile layouts, which will take bicycle riders all the way around Clear Lake, as well as a 40-mile ride through parts of Lakeport, Kelseyville, Finley and Scotts Valley. The event also features a 20-mile family fun ride.
County nonprofit organizations will run rest stops placed throughout the courses, competing for a portion of a $5,000 prize pool.
All of the rest stops will have radios and/or cell service for communication. Each organization gets a share of the prize, and first place will receive $2,000.
Riders will vote for their favorites, and the winner will be announced later that week.
All four rides begin and end at the Lakeport Yacht Club, located at 15 Fifth St. in Lakeport.
The 65-mile and 100-mile riders are released between 7 and 8:30 a.m. The 40-mile and fun ride riders may leave between 8 and 10 a.m., and the 20-mile family fun riders may leave after 10 a.m.
All riders must be back at the yacht club no later than 6 p.m.
Hosted by the Lakeport Rotary Club, money raised at the event supports local and international rotary club projects.
The Konocti Challenge bicycle event boosts the economy in Lake County each year, according to Jennifer Strong, ride director.
