LAKEPORT — One man was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition after what was initially a marijuana compliance check.

Wednesday at about 11 a.m., Lakeport Police Department (LPD) Officer Angie Bell responded to a home in the 300 block of Crawford Street to conduct a marijuana compliance check where pot plants could reportedly be seen in the backyard, according to LPD Lt. Jason Ferguson.

At the home was Nathaniel Hendrickson, 41, who allegedly admitted to having a pot garden; and, upon Bell asking, also reportedly admitted to having a shotgun inside the home which he said belonged to his father, Ferguson stated.

Bell allegedly received consent from Hendrickson to enter the home, as well as consent from his father to search for weapons.

The officer reportedly found a loaded .357 Magnum pistol, a .22 caliber pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, three loaded .22 caliber riffles and numerous rounds of various caliber ammunition, Ferguson stated. In another bedroom, which Hendrickson claimed was his, Bell allegedly also found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and two nylon lanyards containing a total of 46 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition.

Hendrickson, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing, being in custody of or control of any firearm as well as possessing any type of ammunition and was arrested and booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility with a bail set at $15,000.
