CLEARLAKE OAKS — A sheriff”s deputy arrested one man and seized a dozen individually packaged, vacuumed-sealed bags each containing about a pound of processed marijuana Monday, according to a press release.
At about 8 a.m., a Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) deputy was patrolling the Clearlake Oaks area when he noticed a black Ford Taurus that reportedly exhibited numerous vehicle code violations, according to LCSO Lt. Steve Brooks. Central dispatch also advised the unnamed deputy that the car”s registration was expired.
The deputy conducted an enforcement stop on Highway 20 near New Long Valley Road.
The driver was identified as Patrick William King, 44, of Cloverdale.
The deputy then deployed his drug detection K-9 to conduct an exterior sniff of the car, Brooks stated. As the K-9 approached the passenger”s side-rear door, the K-9 allegedly produced a positive alert indicating there was the odor of a controlled substance present.
King stepped out of the car and was informed about the dog alerting to the vehicle, Brooks stated.
King did not give consent to have his car searched, but the deputy opened the trunk. He allegedly smelled marijuana emitting from the trunk only after opening it, Brooks stated.
Inside the trunk, the deputy reportedly found a blue plastic 18-gallon drum with 12 bags each containing about one pound of processed marijuana which were seized for evidence, Brooks stated. The deputy also seized $740 from King, pending asset forfeiture proceedings.?
King was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and charged with transportation of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sales.
