The Affordable Care Act will very soon be in place. The foundation”s main argument for closing the Wellness Center is the need to use the money for the Center to help with the charity cases overwhelming the hospital. Soon that argument will be a moot point.

Doesn”t it seem this is all being pushed through very quickly? The center has more than 450 members. That”s a sizable group in this small community. Many of those members are seasoned fundraisers and active community members and very dedicated to the center. Why were we informed of this closing so late in the game and never asked to come up with helpful ideas that might save it?

The Silver Sneakers program is a big part of the membership, free membership paid for by insurance companies. Babyboomers are very in tune to the wellness concept. What a resource they are to tap into! Wellness has been the trend and is a driving force now for so many products, services and always big in the news. This is not a pass? fad. Let”s do some outreach and let our thoughts be heard. It”s a big mistake to lie down and let them grab this gem from us. Certainly the needs for the rehab use can share the space. There is already a nice sizable room there just for that purpose and a park, which members of the Wellness Center contributed donations to thinking that it would help the center to thrive.
