KELSEYVILLE — Coleman Drew ran for a 65-yard touchdown after catching a 71-yard TD pass from quarterback Robert Carey earlier in the first quarter on Friday night as the Middletown Mustangs beat the Kelseyville Knights 34-13 in a North Central League I junior varsity football game at Kelseyville.
Middletown (4-0 league, 7-0 overall) built a 28-0 lead before the Knights got on the scoreboard with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. The Mustangs put the game away on Justin Rainey”s 4-yard run later in the fourth quarter.
Carey completed touchdown passes to three different receivers while going 5-for-9 for 151 yards. In addition to the 71-yard pass play to Drew, he connected with Tyler Fleenor on a 25-yard scoring pass in the second quarter and with Gabriel Guzman on a 20-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
Drew finished with 147 rushing yards.
Linebacker Wyatt Jones anchored the Middletown defense with eight solo stops and eight assists.
Kelseyville statistics were not reported.
Middletown hits the road Friday to play Cloverdale while Kelseyville visits Clear Lake. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
