KELSEYVILLE — Cassidy Parker of Middletown and Everardo Chavez of Lower Lake finished 1-2 in the varsity boys” race on Wednesday during a four-team cross country meet at Kelseyville.
Fort Bragg joined the three Lake County schools to round out the field.
It was a good day all around for Lake County”s runners. Tori Roderick of Middletown finished second in the girls” race and Ethan Watson of Lower Lake won the junior varsity boys” race, beating out Middletown”s Jacob Olson by six seconds.
The JV boys” race also featured two Middletown runners breaking the course record until it was discovered they had accidentally taken a wrong turn and missed a portion of the course, which led to their disqualification.
“They turned a little early on a little back loop that they had to run again and missed,” Middletown coach Eric Olson said.
Parker won the varsity boys” race in 17 minutes, 18 seconds, well ahead of Everardo at 17:49. Juan Flores led Kelseyville with a fourth-place time of 18:19.
Amelia Wirt of Fort Bragg won the girls” race in a comfortable 22:50. Roderick was next at 24:01 and teammate Carmen Sandoval was fifth in 25:48. Madison Fletcher of Lower Lake edged out teammate Sequoia Dreyer of Lower Lake for sixth place, 25:57.36 to 25:57.66.
In the JV boys” race, Watson crossed the finish line first in 20:32 followed by Olson in 20:38. Jay Stalker of Middletown was third in 20:41.
Rounding out the top five was Eric Graves of Lower Lake in 21:00 and Tanner Kelly of Middletown in 21:36.
