LAKE COUNTY — The Lake County Hunger Task Force and North Coast Opportunites, Community Action are joining forces with Lake Transit Authority to conduct a county-wide non-perishable food drive on Saturday, for Make a Difference Day.
Lake Transit Authority will furnish two buses, to be parked at the Clearlake Grocery Outlet and Lakeport Safeway. Volunteers will be on hand to collect food and stuff the buses with donations. All food collected will be distributed in Lake County.
The agencies invite volunteers to help with the project. Any group or person wanting to collect food is welcomed also. To have food picked up call Lorrie Gray at 277-9227.
Barrels are placed around the county to collect food in advance. Locations include: Sentry Market, Nice; Lakeview Market, Lucerne; Red and White, Clearlake Oaks; Hardesters, Cobb Mountain; Riviera Foods; Grocery Outlet, Clearlake and Lakeport; Lakeport Library; Lake County Office of Education; Konocti Christian Academy; Middletown High School; Carl? High School; Lower Lake High School; Clear Lake High School Lake Transit Authority; Meadowbrook Headstart and Meadowbrook Convalescent Center.
Recipients of the donations are the five senior centers; God”s Helping Hand; One Step Away; Lake Family Resource Center; The Bridge; Yvonne Cox; Catholic Charities Rural Food Project; Clear Lake Gleaners; Middletown Methodist Church; Kelseyville Presbyterian Church; NCO Community Action, and other agencies with food pantries.
Make A Difference Day is a national day of volunteering, and this is the 14th year of participation for the Lake County Hunger Task Force. The total collected during those years is 48, 714 pounds. Last year 7,059 was stuffed on the bus. The goal this year is to exceed 10,000 pounds.
