UPPER LAKE — Well, at least they scored.

The Upper Lake Cougars snapped a 14-quarter scoreless streak on Saturday, one of the few bright spots in a 63-6 North Central League II varsity football loss to the Calistoga Wildcats at Upper Lake.

Mike DiAndrea”s 19-yard touchdown pass to Greg Gagnon in the third quarter was Upper Lake”s first score of any kind since the fourth quarter of a 40-14 loss to Lower Lake back on Sept. 21.

The Cougars” home finale pretty much played out like most of the team”s other games this season, with their opponent building a huge halftime lead. Undefeated Calistoga (4-0 league, 7-0 overall) took that to the next level, however, scoring 42 points in the second quarter for a 63-0 halftime lead. The entire second half was played with a running clock as Calistoga”s reserves replaced the starters, notably running back Dylan Alvarado, who had 11 carries — four for touchdowns — in the first half while amassing 214 yards. He has 1,514 yards on the season and 21 TDs. Quarterback Orion Harrell threw for three other scores.

Upper Lake (0-4, 0-7) finished with a 164 yards of total offense to Calistoga”s 396. Tyler Banks was the Cougars” top rusher with 13 carries for 39 yards. Gagnon caught DiAndrea”s only two completions for 39 yards. He also had five tackles on defense.

Upper Lake hits the road for its final two games this season, beginning with Saturday”s contest against St. Vincent in Petaluma, where the Mustangs” Gary Galloway is gunning for his 200th coaching win.
