LAKEPORT — In the junior varsity version of the Bass Bowl on Friday night between the Clear Lake and Kelseyville junior varsity football teams, it was all about Tyler Dore as far as the host Cardinals were concerned.

Dore, Clear Lake”s sophomore quarterback, ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as the Cardinals held off the Knights 24-22 at Don Owens Stadium.

Dore passed for 88 yards and ran for a team-leading 88 as Clear Lake improved to 4-1 in league and 6-2 overall.

“He ran the speed option pretty well,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said.

Dore”s big game also included strong play on the other side of the ball where he led the Cardinals with seven solo tackles from his safety position. He also had three assisted tackles.

Clear Lake”s defense also got a boost from defensive lineman Tyler Buchholz and from Tyler Manning, who had 3 1/3 sacks in his first start at defensive end.

“As a coaching staff, we couldn”t be any prouder of these kids,” Hayes said.

Clear Lake can move into a first-place tie atop the NCL I standings with a victory Friday night in Middletown against the undefeated Mustangs (5-0). Kickoff is 5:30 p.m.
