CALISTOGA — Coming off a hard-fought and emotionally draining 3-1 North Central League I playoff victory over the Cloverdale Eagles on Tuesday in Cloverdale, the Middletown Mustangs labored through a 3-1 non-league win over the Calistoga Wildcats on Wednesday during non-league girls” soccer action at Calistoga.
“They were tired, they were sore, but they got it done,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said of her players. “I was hoping we would have a bit more of a lead so I could substitute more, but it didn”t happen. But they sucked it up,” Owens added of her starters.
Kaleigh Alves led the Mustangs with a pair of goals while Hannah Diaz added another, her 54th of the season. Paloma Colacion and Ashley Hart had assists.
Middletown, now 18-2 on the season, will learn on Sunday afternoon where it has been seeded in the North Coast Section Division III playoff field. The Mustangs are the defending NCS Division III champions.

Middletown def. Cloverdale
At Cloverdale, Mid-dletown didn”t bring its “A” game to Cloverdale on Wednesday night. Fortunately the Must-angs didn”t need it as they still had enough to beat Cloverdale 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20 in North Central League I action.
“It was ugly,” Middletown coach Jennifer Breiner said. “We had passing trouble, which leads to bad setting and no hitting. We cleaned it up in the end.”
Renee Edwards led Middletown (9-3) with 10 kills, six blocks and six aces. Brianna Ortiz added 15 kills, 10 digs and five aces, and Heather Huston had four kills and nine digs.
Middletown plays its final home league match on Tuesday against Clear Lake (5-6).
The Mustangs also won the junior varsity match on Wednesday, rallying for an 18-25, 25-21, 15-10 win.
