MIDDLETOWN — Coleman Drew rushed for 166 yards and four touchdowns to power the Middletown High School junior varsity football team to a 32-6 victory over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Friday night at Bill Foltmer Field.

Middletown improved to 6-0 in league play and 9-0 overall with the victory. The Mustangs can close out a perfect season this coming Friday when they play their final game against the Lower Lake Trojans at Gordon Sadler Field.

Clear Lake (4-2, 6-3) needed a win to pull into a first-place tie with Middletown atop the league standings.

Middletown scored the game”s first 32 points. Drew scored on 7- and 6-yard runs in the first quarter for a 12-0 lead. The Mustangs pushed that advantage to 24-0 by halftime on a Tyler Fleenor 35-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and a Drew 10-yard run.

Drew”s fourth and final touchdown, a 3-yard run in the third quarter, pushed Middletown”s lead to 32-0 as Drew also added the two-point conversion run.

Albert Ruske finished with 71 yards on seven carries. Middletown quarterback Connor Armstrong went 4-for-10 for 64 yards.

Middletown”s defense forced six turnovers — three interceptions and three fumbles. Gabriel Guzman accounted for half of those with two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Brett Pike also had an interception and Noah Williams recovered a fumble. Antonio Vargas added a sack.

Tackle leaders for the Mustangs were Ruske with a total of 10 and Fleenor with five.

Clear Lake statistics were not reported.
