LAKE COUNTY — Lake County voters elected Patricia “Pat” Hicks to the County Board of Education, Diane Tomkins Plante, Joanne Breton and Don Meri to the Upper Lake Elementary School Board, and Dennis Darling and Tom Powers to the Lakeport Unified School District governing board on Tuesday night. In Clearlake, voters rejected Measure H, a 1-percent sales tax that would have generated $1 million annually for road maintenance in the city. Defeated at the ballot box for a second straight year, the measure needed two-thirds approval from voters but garnered only 979 yes votes (61.2 percent) compared to 621 no votes (38.6 percent). In the race for the seat on the County Board of Education Area No. 3, Hicks received 543 votes (52 percent) to Dawn R. Binns” 502 votes (48 percent). Plante, Breton and Meri were the top three vote-getters in the race for three available seats on the Upper Lake Elementary School Board, a race that drew seven candidates. Plante received 252 votes (20.8 percent), Breton 196 (16.2) and Meri 177 (14.6). Others in the field were Alisa M. Bloom, 167 votes (13.8); Kelly Palmer Burns, 151 votes (12.5); Marie Henry, 148 votes (12.2); and Katy Swaney, 120 votes (9.9). There were two available seats on the Lakeport Unified School District Governing Board and three candidates. Darling collected 846 votes (38.9 percent), Powers 788 (36.2) and Beth K. Ackermann 541 (24.9).
