KELSEYVILLE — A 17-year-old boy caused nearly 3,000 homes to go without electricity for several hours after crashing into a power pole Wednesday night, according to reports. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor and the driver was subsequently arrested and charged with suspicion of DUI.

Just after 9 p.m. the driver was heading southbound on Highway 29 at a reportedly high-rate of speed in a 1995 Chevy pickup truck, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Glen Thomas. The driver allegedly attempted to make a left-hand onto Highway 281; however, the truck”s forward momentum carried it into the northbound lane.

The driver reportedly turned the wheel back to the right and lost control, causing the truck to spin and eventually crash into the power pole, Thomas stated. The truck then rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof.

Kelseyville fire personnel extricated the boy, who sustained major injuries and transported to the UC Davis Medical Center via Calstar air ambulance.

The investigation is being handled by Thomas.
