CLEARLAKE — The Yuba College, Clear Lake Campus honored veterans and those who currently serve the country with a ceremony on campus Wednesday.
Student veteran Anthony Riviera organized the event and served as master of ceremonies.
The event commenced with the Travis Air Force Base Honor Guard presenting the colors while student Tim Cox sang the national anthem. Dean Artemio Pimentel delivered the keynote speech.
He said that not only does the college recognize the service of veterans, but they are welcome and honored at the college.
“Veterans Day is more than just a holiday. We need to be thankful for those having the courage to serve our country,” Pimentel said. “Today, we celebrate those willing to pay the ultimate price for what they believe in and protecting our country, values and principles. Thank a veteran when you see one. They are our family, friends, peers and neighbors. During the last year as dean, I have met several of our veteran students. We are happy to have you home, but we are also proud of you and the commitment you have to education, community and family. On behalf of the faculty and staff, thank you for your sacrifice and willingness to protect the values of our country. As you receive an education, you go on to continue to serve your country in a new, educated role.”
After the dean”s tribute, a moment of silence to honor all veterans was held.
The ceremony closed with student Zabdy Neira singing a ccapella “America the Beautiful.”
All student veterans received complimentary lunch at Aroma”s Cafe, Yuba”s culinary program.
