UPPER LAKE — Windy conditions held dozens of firefighters on standby after a fire that burned between three and five acres of wildland stopped advancing in the area of Clover Valley Road and Bambi Lane.

Fire personnel believe the fire was caused by a powerline damaged by high wind conditions in the area, Jack Piccinini of the Santa Rosa Fire Department said. The fire was reported to have stopped advancing at 5:30 p.m., but it could not be called controlled because of the wind.

The powerline had stopped showing signs of being active, Piccinini said, but it had not been confirmed by PG&E personnel that it was a dead line. PG&E personnel were in the area working on the problem.

Out-of-county fire personnel were requested by county fire departments because of the high-risk conditions the high winds represent, Piccinini said.

Dozens of firefighters were at the scene from several fire departments including CAL FIRE, Northshore Fire Protection District and Santa Rosa Fire Department.

Fire crews were expected to remain in the area through the night as a precaution.
