UPPER LAKE — Nashville-based bluegrass guitarists Rob Ickes and Jim Hurst will kick off the annual winter and spring series, “Concerts with Conversation” Tuesday at the Riffe”s Meeting House next to the Tallman Hotel. The informal concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“We are fortunate that Rob and Jim have again scheduled a stop at the Tallman on their West Coast tour,” Bernie Butcher, owner of the Tallman Hotel, said. “They put on a tremendous show for us about this time last year. It was so popular that we were able to schedule a second follow-up event for the next night.”
Ickes is a Northern California native and brother of Lake County banjo player and bluegrass promoter Pat Ickes.
Ickes moved to Nashville in 1992 and joined Blue Highway as a founding member in 1994. He is recognized as one of the most innovative Dobro players on the music scene today, recording with his own band and as a sought-after session player, Butcher stated.
Ickes won the International Bluegrass Music Association”s (IBMA) Dobro Player of the Year award for a record-setting 15th time this year. He is the most recognized instrumentalist in the history of the IBMA awards, Butcher stated.
Hurst is also a multi-IBMA award winner. “Hurst”s vocal talents, multi-instrument abilities and stylings make him one of the most popular musicians in Nashville,” Butcher added.
The Tallman Hotel is located at 9550 Main St. in Upper Lake. Tickets for the event cost $25 plus tax. Seating is limited. For information, call the Tallman Hotel at 275-2244 ext. 0.
