As a Christian, I am appalled that what is ignorance is attributed to a loving God who has given mortals the task and privilege to help their fellow men, women and children.
In Mr. Kettehofen”s letter, he tells us that it is God”s will to let those in need suffer. Perhaps he has forgotten that it is God”s directive that, while poverty may always exist, it is always our task as His followers to do whatever we can to ease the suffering of those who have so much less than others.
Perhaps he doesn”t remember the scripture about how hard it might be for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. I don”t believe it is my job to preach to others, but I do believe that I am supposed to live as much of an example of love that I can.
My God is not the God who is credited with a lack of compassion by Mr. Kettenhhofen and yes, that would include socialized medicine which, by the way, we don”t have in this country.
He is not a God who wants people”s suffering and I know that my God does not expect me to sit back and do nothing as I wait for his “plan” to unfold ? I know that I have been given a chance to make the lives of others a little bit better and I would argue that is that very thing that is the plan.
Please, stop using the name of our Lord to justify selfishness and greed and a total disregard of compassion for others.
It makes God really sad.
