LAKEPORT — Sutter Lakeside Hospital is offering 10 scholarships for City Fitness gym memberships to residents who qualify in Lake County.
The scholarships will cover 10 gym memberships for the next year. There will be five more 2014 gym scholarship memberships offered to qualified residents in Lake County. Scholarship applications are available at Sutter Lakeside Hospital Rehabilitation Services.
The application deadline for completed scholarships is Dec. 23. Award recipients will be notified by Dec. 31.
“We”re very aware that the decision to close the Wellness Center was disappointing for our community.” Sutter Lakeside Hospital Chief Administrative Officer Siri Nelson said. “While it is not financially feasible for Sutter Lakeside to operate the Wellness Center, the hospital wants to ensure that people in Lake County who are economically disadvantaged have a resource to pay for a local gym membership.”
“When Sutter Lakeside approached us about offering local residents scholarships to cover 2014 gym membership fees, we felt compelled to contribute as well,” City Fitness owner Sara K. McClean said. “We know how hard it is to remain motivated in an exercise program and affordability can be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing a new gym.”
The Lakeside Hospital Rehabilitation Services is located at 5176 Hill Road East in Lakeport and City Fitness is located at 817 Bevins St. in Lakeport.
