UPDATED:

I would like to reiterate to Mr. Kettenhofen, that we do not have socialized medicine in our country and that the Affordable Healthcare Act is not intended as such (check out Steve Sloane”s column in the Opinion section).

Looking at the definition of socialism, the key is that the goods and services are distributed equally and that they belong to all the people.

I do not claim to know how well that system might work for the U.S., but I do know that it is foolhardy to say that it is anti-Christian. Socialized medicine exists in several European countries where the church is also, apparently, thriving.

My main objection to his letter was his proposing that he and God feel the same way ? I do believe that God speaks to us through thought and idea, but I do not believe that he would ever suggest that we ignore those around us who need our help (which his letter did indeed suggest).

I also believe that many do not “hear” clearly what God is saying.

I just don”t want the ills of the world to be blamed on the God who allows us to make some of the horrific mistakes that we do as the free choice he gave us, even when it is not the one He would choose.

I will never be able to justify a lack of sharing as God”s will. And, I will always believe that whomever has the most should share some of it with those who have the least.

I won”t continue to argue with Mr. Kettenhofen. I think we both stand by our own words.

As far as the “pretzel” is concerned, I am pretty sure that Mr. Kettenhofen would be the one who baked it. Merry Christmas.
