ORLAND — Ashlyn Welton reeled off a season-best 34 points on Monday night as the Middletown High School varsity girls” basketball team beat Orland 68-47 in non-league action at Orland.

“She was pretty darn consistent the whole way,” Middletown coach Anthony Bazzano said of his sophomore post, who had 16 points in the first half and 18 in the second half. “She”s playing phenomenal basketball right now. I have to keep reminding myself she”s only a sophomore.”

Middletown (8-3) used a 24-9 third quarter to put the game away.

Welton also led the team with eight rebounds. Emily Lescher added eight points and Katie Depp had six points and a team-best eight assists.

On Saturday night, Welton scored 32 points as the Mustangs routed what had been a red-hot Oceana team 59-26.

“Top to bottom, tip to buzzer, it”s the best game we”ve put together,” Bazzano said.

“Oceana had won three straight coming in and was playing good ball.”

Allegra Macedo added nine points in the win and Nicole Corsetti had six.

Middletown hits the road Jan. 3 to play Winters, the team”s final tuneup before the start of North Central League I play.

In other girls” action Monday:

Kelseyville 40, Healdsburg 37

At Healdsburg, Riley Goff scored eight of her team-leading 16 points in the fourth quarter, six of them free throws, and the Kelseyville Knights held off the Healdsburg Greyhounds in non-league action.

Kelseyville (5-2) shut out Healdsburg 7-0 in the second quarter to grab a 15-12 halftime lead.

Ashley Dunia contributed 12 points to the victory, including two of Kelseyville”s three 3-pointers, and Jeannie Johnson added nine points.

Kelseyville returns to action Jan. 2 in the opening round of the Lower Lake Tournament.
