The On the Links column of Dec. 7 that singled-out Buckingham Golf and Country Club as a club where most of the county”s sandbaggers play was a shot hit way out of bounds by your golf columnist John Berry.
Every golf club in the U.S. has a sandbagging issue, just ask any golfer who plays competitive golf.
Here at Buckingham our PGA Head Professional posts all club tournament scores along with Wednesday sweeps” scores and Friday skins” scores.
After making a few phone calls to my fellow PGA member friends, I found that we go over and above what most clubs do to post member scores.
We do have a system in place here at Buckingham to try to curtail sandbagging, but like at all clubs it”s impossible to stop and all clubs have handicap managers.
With all the golf your golf columnist writes about that he has played in his life, he should know that.
As a local golf columnist who is now employed at a local club, he should stick with promoting golf and local golf courses, not take a clear shot at one.
As a friend, on behalf of all the members at Buckingham, both men and women we will give him a Mulligan on his comment that most of the county”s top 10 sandbaggers play at Buckingham Golf and Country Club. Sure hope he uses it.
